In Balance and Harmony
2010 Santa Fe Indian Market Raffle Prize

RAFFLE

Rebecca & Darryl Begay, the 2009 Santa Fe Indian Market Best of Show Winners, have created a collaborative sculptural piece titled "In Balance and Harmony" for the 2010 Indian Market Raffle. It is a two-sided silver tufa cast sculpture, 6 3/8" (h) x 3 5/8" (w), with inset turquoise, coral, and amethyst and a total silver weight of 28 ounces.

As the title suggests, the sculpture is a perfect balance of Rebecca and Darryl's individual styles. Rebecca exacted her signature and technically flawless floral motif with a blend of flowers, leaves and stems rising in unison. The center of each flower is punctuated with Lone Mountain turquoise, amethyst and Mediterranean coral.

Darryl created a poignant image of a Navajo elder - a frequent theme in his artwork. There are the ten hands surrounding the image, and the imbedded turquoise originates from ten different mines in New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada (including Lander Blue). Together, the panels create a breathtaking sculpture by two master tufa cast artists.

The value of this exquisite sculpture is $12,000. Raffle tickets are now available and can be purchased for $10 each at various locations around Santa Fe or by calling the SWAIA office at 505-983-5220. The drawing will take place during Indian Market on Sunday, August 22, at 12 noon after the Native American Clothing Contest on the Plaza.
