SWAIA Newsletter - March 2013
From the desk of the Chief Operating Officer
Happy Spring! Today marks 139 days until Summer Indian Market week! This month we've been working on the Indian Market Magazine with Native Peoples and the Indian Market Guide with the Santa Fe New Mexican. We're making great progress on both fronts and we know you will love all of the interesting, exciting, informative content and fabulous photos in both publications.
We have just announced our 2013 Fellowship winners. We are very proud of this year's group and hope you will take a moment to visit our site to learn more about SWAIA's fellowship programs and our fantastic 2013 recipients.
Artist acceptance letters have been sent, sponsorship packages are being finalized, food and snack vendor contracts are being signed, marketing efforts are in full force and countless logistics are being organized. Producing Summer Indian Market is far more than a 9 to 5 job and I am grateful to our crew of eight full time staff members who are passionate about doing whatever it takes to make market a success.
Beyond Indian Market preparations, we have some exciting upcoming events to announce:
On April 11th, 6pm at Collected Works Bookstore, Alex Peña will discuss his artwork and sign complimentary copies of Native Peoples magazine where he is featured. Legends Santa Fe will have a champagne reception with a tour of Peña's recent works directly following. A signed copy of the magazine is required for admittance to this exclusive event.
April 18th marks SWAIA's 2013 Annual Meeting for members. Invites have been mailed and we hope to see our members there!
Four SWAIA artists, Heidi Brandow, Nani Chacon, Rhett Lynch and Ehren Kee Natay have been commissioned to redesign guest rooms at the Nativo Lodge Hotel in Albuquerque. This incredible project allows guests an opportunity to be immersed in beautiful art created by SWAIA artists during their stay! Join us for the opening celebration and tour of these rooms on May 10th at 7pm. The rooms will be available for viewing for this one special night only. Check out this video clip of works in progress.
In June, we will host our Honoring Ceremony for SWAIA's Lifetime Achievement and Pov'ika awards. We will also be partnering with Goler shoes for their annual Toms shoes artist event.
As always, we will post information on upcoming events on our website, Facebook and in our enews. Check with us often!
Thank you for your support of SWAIA and the team that brings you the Santa Fe Indian Market. Watch this 2 minute video and get excited for Santa Fe Indian Market 2013! We look forward to seeing you all very soon!
