Programs / Tribal Liaison: Shawna Shandiin Sunrise

(Diné / Kewa)
I bring to SWAIA many levels of experience in arts, education, leadership, and grassroots media organizing. I am an alumnus of Institute of American Indian Arts & the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where I built my background in Film, Video, and Installation & Performance. I've served on the Albuquerque 1% Public Art Board, Gathering of Nations - Miss Indian World Committee & Public Access Channel 27 Board. I am also an AIO Ambassador Alumni and I have served as the Director of Entertainment for Discovery Navajo 2002 Olympics Salt Lake City. Currently I produce NATIVEZINE as Visual Mini-Magazine TV show that promotes the positive images of Indigenous Art, Politics & Culture as well as a weekly radio program Native Music Hours on KANW 89.1. The work I am evolving into is not about protesting or reacting it is all about establishing a communication bond that will develop a deeper understanding of the community I come from to the rest of the world. By embracing this next level of positive communication we can creatively build a forum to express this Native community through strength, beauty and most important movement. Email: ssunrise@swaia.org
