The 12th Annual Native Cinema Showcase

SWAIA, The Center for Contemporary Arts, Santa Fe (CCA) and the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), present the 10th Annual Native Cinema Showcase, a four-day celebration of films and videos by and about indigenous peoples in connection with the Santa Fe Indian Market. The showcase, that features 16 programs of film and video from seven countries, will take place in two central venues: the Cinematheque at the Center for Contemporary Arts and Cathedral Park, located in downtown Santa Fe, which is free and open to Indian Market attendees.

As the largest cultural event in New Mexico, the success of the Santa Fe Indian Market is strongly linked and interwoven with many of Santa Fe's hotels, restaurants and other businesses. Together, SWAIA and its business partners have much to celebrate and invite the public to welcome the 91st Santa Fe Indian Market.

Best of Show Ceremony and Luncheon

Ticketed event. This exclusive event is central to the identity of the Santa Fe Indian Market, as it notes the acknowledgments of Native artists, who often work for years to create the stunning artwork entered for judging and a chance to be named Best of Show. The ceremony will take place at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, and is the only time in the entire weekend where the best artists and best art of Indian Market are together in one place. The 91st Annual Indian Market is the world's most prestigious Native American arts show opens with more than 1100 artists, food and demonstration booths, entertainment and more. Approximately 100,000 people visit Santa Fe for the Indian Market.

Free Admission. The Houser Award is the highest honor that SWAIA bestows upon a Native artist. The annual award recognizes the contributions by a distinguished Native American artist to Native arts and Native culture. The Povika Award recognizes service, leadership and support that Native and non-Native people (the broad range of individuals who make up the Indian Market family) provide to the annual Santa Fe Indian Market and to Native artists and their communities.

A new addition to the 2012 Santa Fe Indian Market, the Indian Market Stage will be a two-day showcase of Pueblo dances, music and performance. Audiences will experience rich Pueblo traditions and cultures and further expand the deep connections of Pueblo artists and the Santa Fe Indian Market.

Native American Clothing Contest

Free Admission. Among the many cherished traditions at the Santa Fe Indian Market, the Native American Clothing Contest (NACC) is one of the most beloved and anticipated events. For over twenty years, the NACC has been the most photographed event at the Santa Fe Indian Market. The contest includes categories for traditional and contemporary Native American fashions, features children and adult participants, and awards prizes in over 20 categories.
