Fellowship Applications will be available in the Winter 2015-2016.
SWAIA Youth Fellowships:
Our Youth Fellowships are for young artists who participate in the 2015 Indian Market. The monetary award is intended to help them with the purchase of supplies or research to assist them in enhancing their skills.
Youth Fellows receive a monetary award.
SWAIA Discovery Fellowships:
The SWAIA Discovery Fellowship intends to assist Native artists in the exploration of their artistic process and push the boundaries of their respective art form. Traditional or contemporary, emerging artist or established; this fellowship rewards innovation and encourages applicants to expand their work into undefined areas. The fellowship funds may be used to purchase materials, equipment or to cover research expenses including travel, but a highly detailed project plan should drive the fellowship. Higher scores will be given to applicants that provide specific outlines of the project and their use of the fellowship funds.
Discovery Fellows receive a monetary award and a complementary booth at the 2016 Santa Fe Indian Market (Excludes writers and filmmakers)
SWAIA Residency Fellowships:
The 7 week Residency Fellowships are intended to be creative opportunities for Native artists. The residency allows artists time and space for creative exploration, coupled with an overlap for the 2016 Santa Fe Indian Market. Residents will share, interact and exchange ideas within a communal living and studio spaces at the world renowned Santa Fe Art Institute (SFAI) in Santa Fe, NM with artist and writers from around the world. SWAIA residency fellows will be afforded every resource provided by SFAI during the 7 week residency. Artists chosen for the fellowship must participate in a post Indian Market Open studio at SFAI.
Residency Fellows receive a 7 week Artist Residency at SFAI August-September (including lodging, studio space and basic foods), a monetary award and a complementary booth at the 2016 Santa Fe Indian Market (Excludes writers and filmmakers).
