2016 Schedule of Official Indian Market Week Events

Tuesday August 16th - Sunday August 21st

NATIVE CINEMA SHOWCASE
- Indian Market "Class X" winning films screen on Friday August 19th.
- Special outdoor screening at the Railyard Park on Saturday August 20th.
In partnership with the National Museum of the American Indian, the 16th annual NCS kicks off an almost week long film festival highlighting the contributions of Native films and filmmakers, including this years Classification X (moving images) winners from the Indian Market juried art competition in film.
Free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-served.

Thursday August 18th

INDIAN MARKET EDGE PREVIEW RECEPTION
Sponsored by JoAnn and Bob Balzer and NARF (Native American Rights Fund)
6:30 - 8:00pm. As part of the official kick off event; donors, sponsors, select artists, tribal leaders, and media will gather for a reception to celebrate the start of the 2016 Indian Market. This reception will highlight Indian Market Edge- a contemporary art show which will include native artists and the galleries and organizations that represent them. Performing arts, fashion, music, light installations, wine tastings, and food will round out this event.

INDIAN MARKET 2016 KICK OFF PARTY
Sponsored by Native American Art Magazine and Smokin Joes
8:00 11:00pm. This event will also preview Indian Market Edge at the Convention Center. DJs, VJs, light installations, urban art battles, muralists, and performing arts, and dancing will officially launch Santa Fe Indian Market 2016.

Friday August 19th

BEST OF SHOW CEREMONY AND LUNCHEON
11:30am-2pm. This exclusive event brings together the top award winning artists, their families, and the Indian Market community to announce and celebrate this year’s best, award winning work. The event begins with the awards presentation followed by a celebratory luncheon for the Best of Show and Best of Classification winners. Award sponsors attend as well as those who want first look at all the award winning pieces.

SNEAK PREVIEW AND GENERAL PREVIEW OF AWARD WINNING ART
Sneak Preview: 5:30pm-7:30pm; General Preview 7:30pm-9:30pm. There is only one opportunity to see so many phenomenal award winning pieces in one place before they find new homes during the opening frenzy of Saturday Morning, and that’s at the Sneak and General Preview events. Crowds of supporters clamor and flow into the Convention Center in order to see the pieces before Indian Market officially opens. SWAIA members get an early look at the winners during the earlier Sneak Preview hours. The public’s first chance to see the work takes place immediately after. Attendees will also be able to see the contemporary component at Indian Market: Edge.

Saturday August 20th

95TH ANNUAL SANTA FE INDIAN MARKET ON THE PLAZA!
7:00am-5:00pm. The 95th Santa Fe Indian Market Transforms the City of Santa Fe, with nearly 900 of the continent’s finest Native American artists showing their work in booths filling the Santa Fe Plaza and surrounding streets. The Indian Market is the largest and most prestigious Native American fine art show in the world.

TRADERS' MARKET (formerly known as the Artisan Supply Show)
7:00am-5:00pm: Artisan supply vendors, Native American-owned businesses and Native artist coooperatives, in a great new location less than a block from the Plaza.

BOOK SIGNING WITH ROXANNE SWENTZELL
10 am – 12 pm: Meet artist and food activist Roxanne Swentzell (Santa Clara Pueblo) and get your copy of her new cookbook, “The Pueblo Food Experience Cookbook: Whole Food of Our Ancestors”

MARKET STAGES MUSIC & DANCE PERFORMANCES
9:00am-4:00pm. The Plaza stage and Santa Fe Community Convention Center are the settings for a number of exciting events and programs. Music and performing arts fill the stages for visitors to augment their Indian Market experience. An ongoing component this year is a series of panel discussions in partnership with the Native American Rights Fund (NARF) discussing topics such as Art and Activism, the Indian Arts and Crafts Act, and Art as a political narrative. Also, at Cathedral Park, the popular Children’s Tent which hosts a variety of artistic activities for budding artists.

HAUTE COUTURE FASHION SHOW
1:00 pm. This is the 3rd year of this already adored and highly attended event, featuring designers that have shown at fashion weeks including NY Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and more. Our native designers are putting forward cutting edge designs and accessories for showcase at Indian Market.
Open to the public: free to stand/$10 for a seat

LIVE AUCTION AND GALA
6:00pm. One of the most glamorous and popular events of the Santa Fe Indian Market is the Live Auction Gala and Reception. Hosted by La Fonda, this fundraiser for the Southwestern Association of Indian Arts (SWAIA), the organization that produces the Indian Market, begins with a silent auction and cocktail reception at the hotel’s La Terraza. The evening culminates with the exciting Live Auction Gala and dinner in the Lumpkins Ballroom. Tickets and full tables of 10 are now available and seating is limited. For an early glimpse of Live Auction items available at the Gala, please attend the Friday night Best of Show previews at the convention center or see our website.

FASHION CHALLENGE/NATIVE AMERICAN CLOTHING CONTEST
9:00am-12:00pm. Among the many cherished traditions at the Santa Fe Indian Market, the Native American Clothing Contest is one of the most beloved and anticipated events. The contest includes categories for traditional and contemporary Native fashions; featuring children and adult participants with award prizes in a variety of categories.
