What is the Native American Clothing Contest?

For SWAIA’s Centennial, we’re keeping it Traditional! The Native American Clothing Contest presents a wide array of regalia and clothing from North America Indigenous Nations. Contestants are judged on handmade designs of traditional regalia and compete for ribbons and prize money in numerous age categories:

  • Tiny Tots, Youth Juniors, Teens, Adults, and Golden Age.
  • Men, Women, Boys, and Girls.
  • First, Second, and Third Place in each category and one (1) Best of Show Winner.

Are there restrictions/limitations on what type of clothing can be entered?

Since the Native American Clothing Contest didn’t occur since 2019, we’re welcoming traditional regalia created within the past two (2) years. All clothing must be Indigenous made with raw, organic, natural materials.

Do we provide official proof of Indian Blood (CIB)?

Yes. Official proof of Indian Blood (CIB) is required for participating artists and/or relatives entering the contest.

How many outfit pieces can I enter for judging?

Each artist/relative can enter only one (1) item of clothing.

Will there be a dressing room to get ready?

We encourage models to arrive dressed and ready to go. There will not be a dressing room, but a reserved space will be provided in which participants have an area to relax and wait to be called for their age category.

Where can I park?

Parking is on your own and very limited around the plaza. Please check local listings, including the SWAIA Official Booth Guide, for the diagram with general parking garages and lots.
