Elroy Natachu Jr. (Zuni Pueblo) is a modern-day painter, rekindling the essence of Zuni Culture by incorporating various styles ranging from Abstraction, Color Field, Symbolism, Realism, and Painterly.
I encompass a wide range of subject matter that pertains explicitly to Zuni Culture. Examples: Kachina Figures, Animals, Insects, Sacred Colors, Pueblo Textiles (embroidery), etc. To describe my artistry: it is the essence of the religious beliefs and teachings of the Zuni People.
I love utilizing artistic techniques, such as color fields and color theory. My work allows the colors to convey emotions, with the addition of splatter and acrylic transfers. My manipulation of the mediums creates a new take on Classic Zuni Paintings.
The colors I use are vibrant in a combination of fundamental color principals. These primary colors were widely used by our Ancestors, who had an understanding, which is awe to behold past and present.
