Bowie bows are an artistic expression of how this artist views the beauty of the bow and arrow. Through thousands of years, a bow in skillful hands provided food, clothing and protection. The bow is an extension of oneself.
Each bow limb has a brilliant story to tell, showing the intertwining of our Native American view of life with nature. I believe that the bow was the first expression of art produced by man, long before pottery, dress or petroglyphs. The bows are individually worked by hand tools and all have their own character that comes through each piece. The bows also come with a leather quiver that are also another work of art to marvel.
I look forward to speaking with you more on the subject of bows and arrows.
I live and work at Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo in New Mexico, where I still roam the areas of the river that I did as a child. I have hunted for a life time...bow hunted the last 10 years. Natural wood bows are a thing of beauty in function and form. All my bows/arrows/quivers/carrying cases have my artistic touch some depicting local Pueblo dances. A working functional bow for hunting or target practice is becoming lost to our youth, I like to transfer my knowledge to them in time.
