SWAIA is pleased to announce that it will begin a search for an Executive Director – one that will be tasked with guiding the organization into its Centennial – in the coming weeks. In 2021, the Santa Fe Indian Market will celebrate its 100th year as the largest and most prestigious Native American art market in the world. Staff members Amanda Crocker and Yvonne Gillespie have been named interim Co-Directors during the search process. Plans are moving forward for a large-scale celebration that will engage artists, collectors, visitors, residents and local businesses alike.
INTERIM CO-DIRECTOR / PR & MARKETING DIRECTOR
Amanda Crocker is a native New Mexican and a graduate of the University of New Mexico, where she obtained degrees in Anthropology and Spanish. Prior to joining SWAIA, Crocker worked as Director of Programs and Marketing at El Rancho de las Golondrinas living history museum for 11 years, coordinating ten public events per year and handling all advertising and media relations. Other non-profit experience includes six years with Cornerstones Community Partnerships in Santa Fe, a community-based historic preservation organization.

Yvonne Gillespie grew up in the military and lived in Europe and several states in the U.S. before her father retired in southern New Mexico. Her family’s travels exposed her to many cultures, and she acquired a love of travel and diversity. Yvonne attended NMSU and UTA-Arlington, focusing on general studies, before making Santa Fe her home. Her 30 years in construction retail, project management and accounting gave her opportunities to work both in the office and the field. Yvonne has also been a member of Santa Fe Search and Rescue since 2001. She is a current Team Leader, and served on the Board as both President and Vice President/Training Officer.

Janie Reano | Kewa
Janie Reano is from the Santo Domingo Pueblo (Kewa), New Mexico and a member of the Parrot clan. She worked for Intel Corporation for 23 years in various roles; manufacturing technician, trainer/technical writer, construction and facilities. Janie is an artist working in mosaic inlay and wire work. She’s been involved with SWAIA as a volunteer and artist since her teens.

Jamie Schulze | Northern Cheyenne/Lakota
Originally from Montana, Jamie moved to New Mexico 28 years ago and loves the land and the people. She is currently pursuing her B.A. in Indigenous Liberal studies through the Institute of American Indian Art. Jamie joins SWAIA from the hospitality industry as a former owner of The Bavarian Lodge & Restaurant, in Taos Ski Valley, NM. She is also a certified business and life coach with a leadership training certification. She is excited to join SWAIA’s team and be a part of “bringing Native arts to the world” through collaboration and education.
Eric Villegas | Acoma Pueblo
At SWAIA, Eric helps Native American artists and others who are interested in the Santa Fe Indian Market by supporting meaningful experiences with artist services. Before joining SWAIA, Eric has volunteered as an artist advocate while focusing his academic efforts on reservation art entrepreneurship. His passion for art, being rooted in Acoma artistry, has grown through community engagement. Eric encourages artists to benefit from their artwork and transform creativity into constructive interactions.
