MATERIAL/TECHNIQUE:
Traditional Ts'msyen cedar basket weaver. All materials used are gathered by the artist including western redcedar, yellow cedar, spruce root, sea sweetgrass, maiden hair fern, cattail, wild cherry bark (etc.) from the forests of the Pacific Northwest. The weaving techniques are traditional and learned from my mother (tradition), our research through collections, and various weaving work shops and instructors. We teach traditional techniques of the tribes that people belong to so they learn tradition too. Every basket tells a story, and it starts with tradition.
