MATERIAL/TECHNIQUE: I practice the traditional form of carving Hopi kachina dolls that was taught to me by my father and his brother's. All pieces are carved from harvested dried cottonwood tree root. I take pride in the fact that I do not use motorized tools, all dolls and their accompanying pieces are carved with a simple pocket knife. Once shaped, I meticulously use sanding paper to get the desired smoothness. Painting is completed using natural earth pigments. The finishing touches are then placed; bird feathers, turquoise stones, leather adornments. I am a perfectionist when it comes to my art work and it brings me great joy to share my work with the outside world.
