Amber L. DuBoise-Shepherd
MATERIAL/TECHNIQUE:
I grew up in a home immersed with my different Native cultures and languages of the Diné (Navajo), the Sac & Fox, and Prairie Band Potawatomi. My drawings and paintings depict my experiences from my everyday life. My pieces have an illustrative and narrative quality with them as I bridge the traditional Native subjects with modern contemporary styles. I utilize patterns and designs that were passed down from both sides of my family from Diné/Navajo textiles, and woodland ribbon work and beadwork. The reference photos I use are from family or experiences, and I combine this with the Native designs. In some of my pieces I incorporate traditional native words or phrases in the artwork or in the title.
