Erik Lee
MATERIAL/TECHNIQUE:
Erik Lee is a multi-disiplinary artist from the Ermineskin Tribe in Maskwacis,(Bear Hills) Alberta.Eriks work is rooted in Cree traditional forms and reflects the geometric and floral designs in Cree art. He brings this aesthetic to his contemporary, fine art jewellery style and high end wearable fashions in sterling silver, stones, leather and traditional materials.Employing many techniques including: overlay, inlay, chasing and repousse, hand engraving, lapidary, casting, and cold and hot forge fabrication, Erik brings his ideas and concepts into being. “My work is informed by the visual language and design sensibilities of the Plains Cree.Growing up in awe of my mothers beadwork designs and the patterns and motifs in my family and Nations art and regalia is the strongest influence to my work. Plains art and adornment are very individual forms of expression.Every piece is a statement piece, the statement being,“here I am!”.
