MATERIAL/TECHNIQUE:
Traditional Santa Clara Pueblo pottery. Clay is gathered from the hills of Santa Clara Pueblo. Mixed with volcanic ash as a temper and elasticity. Hand formed with coils along the rim using a pinch and pull to smoothing technique. Sanded when dry to achieve smooth texture. Hand polished with a smooth river stone and a red rock clay slip mixture. Pit fired outdoors using metal tins and cedar wood. Designed on the surface with a share blade in a sgraffito/carving technique.
