Mother Corn Cat

TRIBAL AFFILIATION:
Pueblo of Acoma

CLASSIFICATION:

BOOTH NUMBER:
PLZ 45

MATERIAL/TECHNIQUE:
I create my pottery using traditional and natural clays and pigments. I first gather clays and pigments from my local surroundings. I hand sculpt my pottery using methods of coiling and pinching to form the base. I use commercial brushes to apply the pigments and fire them in an electric kiln. My inspiration is from stories that my grandma would tell me. The most prominent one would be about her grandma's cat in the corn fields. Using her stories, the environment, and my own experiences allows me to carry on my family and pueblo's traditions while making them unique and my own.
