The pottery material(s) used are a combination of hand dug earth’s natural clay: volcanic ash and natural red earth clay gathered in San Ildefonso Pueblo. Pottery is made by hand and are pinch pots and/or coiled formed. Pottery pieces dry and are sanded. Polishing/burnishing the pottery is done by hand with a river bed stone and red iron oxide natural clay also gathered from the San Ildefonso Pueblo. Painting traditional designs is done with a painting brush and also the red iron oxide natural clay.
