MATERIAL/TECHNIQUE:
My work is created using the roots of cottonwood trees. I rough in the dolls with the use of a Foredom, then refine the details in carving with gouges and a pocket knife. Once carved, I sand the wood with 4 different grits of sandpaper to achieve the smoothest finish possible, then I use a wood burning tool to create tactile features in the hair and clothing. I use a matte medium to seal the wood, paint the piece with acrylics, and to finish, I seal the doll with a matte finish.
