MATERIAL/TECHNIQUE:
Clay is made from mixing natural clays found in nearby hills in the Pueblo. Pottery is hand coiled or pinched to form shape from all natural clay materials. Polished with red slip and smooth stone. Design is hand painted with natural paints found in the hills. Firing red pottery is a high fire with cedar wood. Firing black pottery, cotton wood bark is used to start the firing then smothered with horse manure to turn the pottery black.
