Terrance Guardipee

MATERIAL/TECHNIQUE:
My artwork consists of Blackfeet ledger art and paintings. I draw with imported oil-based colored pencil on original documents dating from the mid-nineteenth century to early twentieth century in my artwork. My style of ledger art is expressed both on single-page ledgers and larger collaged pieces. The antique documents I use include single-page ledgers, maps, checks, war rations, stock certificates, and music paper. I draw traditional Blackfeet images depicting creation stories, winter counts, significant historical battles as well as historical Blackfeet leaders in my artwork. I combine traditional Blackfeet designs with a contemporary color palette in both my ledger art and my paintings.
