FEATURED ARTIST

SHIRLEY M. BRAUKER

I have spent years developing a Woodland style carved and cut-out technique on my pottery. My diversified square boxes feature stained glass or drawings tucked inside clear glass forms. I use my creations to tell stories of my Native Heritage. Many pieces come with little hand bound books to ensure the stories live on. I also hand draw images on 100-year-old ledger pages to highlight the Great Lakes Tribes, since I am a member of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians located there. I have taught Native Art and culture to students from elementary school age to senior citizens and at three colleges. I received an Honorary PhD from Central Michigan University after giving the Commencement Address to over 5,000 students. I have been featured in national publications and have participated in all the major Indian Art Markets for over 28 years.
