Each piece is hand formed using native shale clay mined from our clay mine at Acoma Pueblo. Each piece is hand painted, the designs on each piece are all free hand. You will find some pieces with a 3-dimensional butterfly wing that is also hand formed and placed on the pottery. The paints used for color are natural sand pigments that were collected over time, mixed with a white slip clay called eipsha. The paint used for line work is an iron oxide paint mixed with boiled spinach juice for the darker color. Each piece is made of all natural resources that come from the earth even down to the water used in the paints. On rainy days rain water is collected and saved to use in the paint.
